Kirkman Circularity Center
About the project
The Kirkman Circularity Center is in rural Shelby County, Iowa. The biogas generated by this manure is captured, cleaned, and converted into renewable natural gas utilizing two digesters. This gas can be used as transportation fuel, industrial heating, and a host of other applications. Developed in the third tranche of RNG projects from Brightmark and Chevron’s joint venture.
Project benefits
GHG REDUCTIONS
This project reduces emissions by an average of over 52,000 tons of CO2eq annually. That is equivalent to planting more than 62,000 acres of forest per year.
RESOURCE RECOVERY
The process of recovering and processing manure from the farms prevents excess emissions from escaping into the local air and water.
WASTE TO NEW PRODUCTS
In addition to the renewable natural gas, other renewable products supported by the center include fertilizer and irrigation water.
“At Kirkman farms, we strive to do right by our employees, animals, customers, neighbors, environment, and our overall community. Brightmark has been a great partner working together with us to become a carbon-neutral dairy farm by converting methane from cow manure into a renewable natural gas in an environmentally sustainable and continuous process.”
– Matt Van Baale, Owner/Partner Kirkman Farms
