Together we
can make change.
“Individually, we are one drop, together, we are the ocean.”
– Ryunosuke Satoro
The ocean is the largest ecosystem on Earth and is the planet’s life support system. The ocean is essential for all life, and we must protect it.
We have partnered with the Guy Harvey Foundation (GHF). Their mission is to conduct scientific research and host educational programs to conserve the marine environment. Brightmark and GHF are passionate about protecting our oceans, and we believe that we can make the most significant impact together.
With the Guy Harvey Foundation being the expert in marine science research and educational program development, we knew we could have a significant impact.

After a few days of hanging out with… Continue reading The Kids Are Alright

Most mechanical recycling facilities collect plastics #1 and #2, easily recycled through traditional technologies. These empty soda bottles and salad dressing containers can be recycled into new versions or turned into other long-lasting products. Plastics #3 through #7 are notoriously difficult to recycle because additives included during manufacturing cannot be removed. This challenge is compounded… Continue reading What can and can’t be recycled

Perspective is truly a phenomenal concept. Recently, I’ve been looking at things a little differently. I have the fortunate opportunity to spend a little time underwater as I sought my dive certification, and I’ve found that being underwater has allowed me to reflect on the impact of our work at Brightmark and the “why” behind it all…. From a completely new perspective.

I am an environmentalist at heart. My journey, personally and professionally, has led me to a path of ensuring we leave this earth in better shape than we found it. It began with my grandma at her home in Georgia, and it’s why I founded Brightmark: to find ways to make our mark on the… Continue reading Swimming with My Thoughts

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Americans began traveling differently. And so did I. In lieu of my annual two-week excursion abroad with my husband, my family has stuck closer to home and focused on short excursions that don’t require plane travel (not until our 4-year-old is vaccinated, anyway). Local travel has scratched my wanderlust itch…mostly. I continue to dream of the Mediterranean, but I’m also grateful for the destinations I have visited in the DMV (DC-Maryland-Virginia area).
